Unsolicited Material - Presubmission Requirements

JAAOS requires presubmission approval for unsolicited material to ensure that a topic is not already under consideration and that the article concept meets our current needs. Before preparing your proposal, please review our Instructions for Authors. For your proposal to be considered, please provide the following: (1) authors and affiliations, including degrees and academic appointments, (2) an abstract, (3) brief outline, (4) proposed bibliography, and (5) the subspecialty that is the best fit for your proposal (ie, shoulder and elbow, hand and wrist, hip and knee, foot and ankle, sports medicine, trauma, oncology, spine, pediatrics, general, or basic science).

Authorship Policy

First author. The Journal requires that the first author (ie, lead author) be an MD (or equivalent degree) and have completed his or her residency.
Corresponding author. It is recommended that the senior author serve as the corresponding author. The corresponding author receives all editorial communications regarding the status of the manuscript, revisions, and peer reviews and is responsible for the dissemination to coauthors of the comments made by the deputy editor and the reviewers and other manuscript information.
NOTE: The deputy editor responsible for inviting a manuscript based on the proposal may elect to designate the Corresponding Author. If that author does not accept responsibility, the proposal may be declined.
